Elizabeth Kelly: “Showing our own strength may bring someone closer to finding theirs.”

In celebration of National Women’s History Month, please join us in celebrating the amazing women at WestCare Nevada. Today’s featured women is Elizabeth Kelly!

Elizabeth has been with WestCare Nevada ever since April 2019 and is currently a counselor for the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at WestCare Nevada’s Las Vegas’s Community Involvement Center. The program provides clients intensive treatment without requiring an overnight stay. Learn more about the program HERE.

Read below for an interview we had with Elizabeth to learn more about her journey at WestCare and what empowers her to do the work she does.

What is a memorable moment of your WestCare journey?

A memorable moment of my WestCare journey is when I was asked if I would consider moving from my role as a case manager to becoming a counselor for the PHP.  It was gratifying to know that my passion and dedication to our clients was seen and that I was trusted enough to take on such a vital role.

As a woman, what has empowered you?

My own story empowers me. My family was told shortly after I was born that there was a very good chance I would not survive and if I did, I would need assistive care forever. Clearly that was not accurate, as evidenced by the fact that I am here today. I tell my story with many clients I interact with to share with them that they should never let the judgement or labels by others define who they are or what they can do.

What words of encouragement do you have to share with other women?

Never be afraid to let your light shine and be yourself. We never know how showing our own strength as women may bring someone closer to finding their strength. It is by following this path that we can continue to break the idea of gender roles and stereotypes.

What does uplifting the human spirit mean to you?

To me, uplifting the human spirit means treating people with dignity and respect while helping them with their journey to rebuild their lives, relationships, and their sense of self.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I truly believe that the work we all do at WestCare makes a difference and I cannot imagine being anywhere else.

Elizabeth has been an amazing team and family member of WestCare Nevada and we are honored for her service and dedication. We celebrate her this March and know that she will continue to help uplift the human spirit of those who come to utilize our services.
